The saddle is marked JR ROWELL CO. Hayward Calif. MGF, the bridle is not maker marked the breast collar is marked Hamley & Co. Pendleton, Ore. Saddle maker Bio: James Henry (Harry) Rowell -Inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Professional Cowboy Hall of Fame. He established what the Western Rodeo is today. He owned one of the largest Ranches in Northern California and operated his World famous saddlery for years. Was the biggest Rodeo Stock Contractor in the West!! Harry was known as the "Rodeo King". Rowell was a rancher, rodeo producer and livestock provider - succeeding in each of the ventures. In 1940 he went into the saddlemaking business with his partner Victor Alexander, in Hayward, California. In 1942 Alexander left, and the shop name was changed to the Rowell Saddle Co. Harry prospered in Hayward, building a reputation for saddles and buckles while sponsoring Bay Area rodeos. Rowell moved his saddle shop from Hayward to Castro Valley where it remained until the early 1960s. Thanks for looking and God bless.
