Vintage Yacht Searchlight, The Portable Light co. Half Mile Ray, Nautical Lamp.
This HALF-MILE RAY searchlight was manufactured by The Portable Light Co., Inc. of New York, NY. It is of all brass construction. Date of manufacture cannot be determined, but it appears to be a vintage production piece of maritime equipment used in the 1940-50s   These searchlights were produced for a variety of boat types, from work boats to luxury yachts.  The lamp appears to be complete, with all original parts.  The reflector appears to be in excellent condition. The condition of the bulb is unknown and the lamp will need to be re-wired to work.  The lens appears issue free. The lamp does have a couple of condition issues, which are typical of these lights.  The electric wire cable is partially broken at the top connector and there might be one or more slight breaks in the metal cable.  However, the cable remains intact.  The body of the searchlight has several age-related stress cracks.  These are a result of shaping of the brass during manufacture and age. At a short distance, these lines do not detract from the appearance of the lamp.  The lamp is fully functional.  It turns left and right and up and own the full intended range of motion.  It is 21 inches tall, 12 inches wide (at the widest points), the lens is 7 inches in diameter, and the mounting base is 5.5 inches in diameter. Weight is 13 pounds. The unit is in very good condition
