Vintage Rare western saddle ~made by Kentucky Whip & Collar Co ~ tooledThis is a neat saddle because it was made by convict prison labor from Kentucky's
Eddyville penitentiary. From what I can find out, it was made somewhere between
the mid 30s and into the early 40s. The prison did most of the work until a lawsuit from
Illinois train co. had a problem with the shipping of convict made items.
Anyway, back to the saddle - it is in nice shape. The leather for the most part is soft and workable.
It has what they call a slick seat that is 14.5 inches. The great part , is the tapaderos.
They are carved on one side and basket stamped on the other side so they can be used either way.
There is no dry rot. It has a nice patina to it. Tapaderos like these are hard to find in this shape - and high priced!
If you collect old western saddles - this is a great one! I have a few more pictures with measurements.
