Harris County Texas Sheriff's Dept. patrol car door patch emblem sticker
.  This sticker is 40+ years old and is old surplus new old stock (NOS).  It was part of a surplus supply that was left over from back in the day when the Sheriff's Office was changing over the color and decal scheme on their patrol cars sometime around 1984.  I have NEVER SEEN ANOTHER AUTHENTIC EMBLEM LIKE THIS BEING MADE AVAILABLE ON EBAY BEFORE.
Please note the following disclaimer; the four water bottles depicted in the description photos are being used as corner weights to keep the sticker laid flat upon the table top so it could be properly photographed in preparation of this eBay listing.  The water bottles ARE NOT part of the listing.  Additionally, the #3 photo in the description photographs is an image of an actual period Harris County Sheriff's Dept. patrol car depicting the same large style patch sticker that were used and affixed to the patrol car front door panels.  This photograph is for illustration purposes only and is NOT included in the listing and/or sale of the sticker.
The REFLECTIVE sticker has never been peeled and remains in "unused" condition.  The sticker was manufactured by
3M
"
Scotchlite
" and retains its original protective coverings over both the front and back of the sticker.  The back covering is
opaque and
would be peeled away exposing the sticky adhesive back so the emblem could be laid flat upon the patrol car door panel during installation.  After being installed, the front transparent protective covering would then be peeled away and off of the sticker to reveal a beautiful highly-reflective multi-color Sheriff's Dept. patch sticker.
The large patrol door patch emblem was patterned to replicate the exact design of the Sheriff's Dept. uniform shoulder patch that was worn by the sheriff deputies during the period.  The only difference between the two is
the Deputy uniform patch had a "WHITE" colored center "lone star" and the door emblem had a "GOLD" colored "lone star"
.  Refer to the description photos for confirmation.  This style patch and patrol vehicle door emblem design were used during the administration of
Sheriff Jack Heard
between January 1973 and December 1984.
This large patrol door emblem is made out of highly-reflective vinyl and measures approximately 19-1/8" tall by 19.0" wide across the top and 12.0" across the bottom of the sticker.  The sticker has (4) four
vibrant
colors; dark blue, light blue, yellow and gold.  The center "lone star" is the
CORRECT
gold color with a yellow wreath upon a light blue field.  The remainder of the door emblem is dark blue that is bordered in gold with gold lettering.
The only condition issue I can see concerning this patrol door sticker is located along the emblem's bottom edge centered underneath the word "
DEPT.
".  If you look at the description photos you can see a very small amount of minor separation has occurred between the back protective covering tape and the sticker itself. This separation is very small and has not harmed the appearance of the sticker.  It does not run deep into the design (less than 1.0" long) and at most has permitted the adhesive in that small of an area to become less tacky than the remainder of the sticker due to air exposure.  This is really a very minor issue that can be very easily mitigated with the application of new adhesive at the time of mounting.
The front side removable transparent protective tape covering has numerous 3M Company stampings intermittently printed across the sheet that read as follows.

Please note, as previously disclosed, the removable protective tape coverings on both the front and back of the sticker have never been peeled away.  This vintage reflective door sticker has never been used and inasmuch remains in new old stock condition.  The aforementioned notwithstanding, the sticker is in fact over 40 years old so I cannot attest to whether or not the adhesive has remained viable over the past four decades.  Nevertheless, because this sticker remains in "unused condition", the front side of the door emblem remains in beautiful condition and will still display nicely even if the back of the sticker needed to be re-glued before mounting.
Don't let this rare find pass you by, I am certain these AUTHENTIC 40+ year old door panel emblems are like hen's teeth and once this one sells you will more than likely never see another one being offered on eBay again.
