    Description

Here is a terrific Victorian Brass Bow Light which was probably made by Simpson - Lawrence & Co. of Glasgow, one of Britain’s best known and greatest makers of marine lamps, hardware and related equipment during the late 1800’s and 1900’s. This was most likely used on a smaller vessel such as a yacht or a trawler. The lamp is approximately 10” wide, 9 1/2” high (excluding the ring on top), and 5 1/4” deep. The features that make this special include the castellated top, decoratively punched chimney, bug-eyed, red and blue port and starboard lenses, and overall attention to detail in the brass work. It’s fair to say that marine lamps of this quality simply aren’t being made anymore.
This lamp is in as-found condition. It’s missing it’s internal lighting device or burner and the edge of the curved brass cowling surrounding the blue starboard light shows evidence of minor damage which could probably be repaired by someone with good soldering skills. Please examine the photos carefully and enlarge them as they form part of the description of this item.
Lamps of this quality and style rarely come on the market so, if you’re a serious marine collector and interested in this kind of thing, it may be an excellent opportunity to acquire one at a reasonable price.
Thanks for looking and, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
