    Description

Offered for purchase is a antique Wrigley's spearmint gum paper advertisement. This appears to be a piece of advertisement pulled from a magazine or newspaper from the early twentieth century. The artwork is composed of overall sepia and white tones with green and red highlights featured in the text and the pack of gum. The goddess Electra is depicted with a electrified light bulb crown to advertise that the packs are electrically sealed. Based on research of the advertisements printed on the back of the paper I am dating this piece from 1904-1910. The ad comes framed in a frame of unknown age. I do not believe the frame to be antique. It is a bit rough as can be seen in the photos but is in acceptable condition. The patina of the frame lends itself to the obvious age of the paper advertisement. The paper is in overall good condition. The print and colors remain vibrant. There are a few flaws as you find in ephemera of this age. At the middle of the piece toward the top and bottom are two areas of brown spotting where, I assume, staples were placed. These can bee seen in the eighth and ninth photos. These photos also show two areas with two additional pinholes. The dimensions of the the frame are approximately 23 1/2" x 15 1/2". The dimensions of the advertisement are approximately 19 3/4" x 11 1/2".
